Getting the right size rug
As a rule, the rug should preferably be larger than your dining table by 60-70 centimetres on both sides. This way, the dining chairs still remain on the rug when you pull them out. A tip is to mark out the area with tape to see how it looks before you buy the rug.
Design defining the dining area
In an open space like a living room, a dining table rug helps define the dining areaclearly. A dark rug under a light-coloured dining set - and the opposite - creates a contrast that makes the whole group pop quite nicely. Also, a floor protector under the children´s chair is a smart move to make cleaning easier.
Picking a practical pile
Getting the chairs in and out is a lot smoother on a flatwoven or low-pile rug. These rugs are also much easier to keep clean and fresh. Even if this narrows your options down slightly, there are lots of creative, colourful and even unique, handmade rugs to choose between.
